Kintsugi Workshop

BFree Studio 27 May 2023
BFree Studio 5:30 - 8 PM

Kintsugi is the Japanese art of putting broken pottery pieces back together with gold —

built on the idea that by embracing flaws and imperfections, you can create an even

stronger, more beautiful piece of art. Directly translating to “golden joinery,” as a philosophy, it treats breakage and repair as part of the history of an object, rather than something to conceal or discard. Every break is unique and instead of repairing an item like new, the 500-year-old technique actually highlights the "scars" as a part of the design.

Uplifting and hopeful, Kintsugi is an inspiring metaphor for dealing with the times we

feel broken in life. It's a reminder to find the gold to mend ourselves and appreciate our so called flaws. This is a hands on workshop where you will learn to repair ceramic pieces in a modern verssion of Kintsugi. During this workshop, the instructor will also touch upon the origins of Kintsugi and how it relates to the ancient Japanese philosophy or perspective on life known as Wabi-Sabi.

Provided in the workshop:

· Two small ceramic pieces to repair.

· All the material needed to complete your Kintsugi pieces.

· You'll learn two distinct ways of highlighting the breaks of your ceramic pieces.

· Written instructions and materials supply list.
